APTA Outstanding Public Transportation Board Member

 Charles Emery, Chairman of the DCTA Board of Directions, was recognized by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) as the Outstanding Public Transportation Board Member of the Year. The award honors individuals serving on the governing boards of a public transportation system who has made outstanding contributions to the public transportation industry. The award was presented to Charles Emery at the 2007 APTA Annual Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina.

John Hedrick, president of the Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA), has received the Outstanding General Manager Award from the Texas Transit Association (TTA). The award, which honors a public transportation manager who has made outstanding contributions to the public transportation industry, was presented to John Hedrick by TTA President John Wilson at the 2007 Texas Transit Conference in Austin.

DCTA staff nominated Mr. Hedrick for his leadership and guidance in the implementation of the authority’s service plan which includes the development of a regional rail system. In their submission, staff noted that John “devotes his time and energy to transportation unselfishly, particularly to the DCTA.”

On June 6, 2003, the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) presented the Regional Cooperation Award to the Denton County Transportation Authority at the Annual General Assembly Meeting of the NCTCOG. The award is presented to local governments which promote coordination and cooperation to solve regional problems; which do not allow jurisdictional boundaries to the be barriers to solutions; and which demonstrate that joint projects can provide better use of resources as well as quality service. DCTA was honored to accept this award for its cooperative regional efforts.

On August 9, 2006, the American Public Transit Association (APTA) awarded the Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) with two first place AdWheel Awards. The annual AdWheel Awards competition honors APTA member organizations for excellence in advertising, marketing, promotion and communications.

DCTA’s two first place nods were awarded for the promotional materials created for the Commuter Express service and for the “Inaugural Ride” special event promoting the launch of Commuter Express.

DCTA will formally accept the award in San Jose during APTA’s annual conference in October. At that time, Grand Prize winners will be announced.

The North Texas Commission (NTC) awarded its Eighth Annual Transportation Excellence Award in Mobility (TEAM) to the Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) organization and to Charles Emery, DCTA Board Chairman. The awards, presented to the individual and organization that have best made strides to improve mobility, were presented at the Texas Transportation Summit at the closing luncheon on August 11, 2006. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) was the keynote speaker and H. Dan Farell, with TXU and vice chairman of the North Texas Commission, was the TEAM awards presenter.
